Following upon the October 2023 gathering for the Synod in Rome, the Secretariat for the Synod of Bishops has asked diocesan bishops to hold 2-3 listening sessions regarding two “guiding questions” from the Synod. Bishop Hanefeldt has scheduled two listening sessions and is inviting all Catholics, including those who may be inactive in the practice of the faith, to attend and share their perspective. Listening sessions were held on Tuesday, January 30, from 7:00-8:30PM at Christ the King Church in Gering, and on Tuesday, February 6, from 7:00-8:30PM at Resurrection Church in Grand Island.
The guiding questions upon which you are encouraged to reflect are these:
1. Where have I seen or experienced successes – and distresses – within the Church’s structure(s)/organization/leadership/life that encourage or hinder the mission?
2. How can the structures and organization of the Church help all the baptized to respond to the call to proclaim the Gospel and to live as a community of love and mercy in Christ.
