This survey, conducted by theMarist Poll and commissioned annually by the Knights of Columbus, also found that, for thesecond consecutive year, 83% of Americans support pregnancy resource centers, which offersupport to mothers both during their pregnancy and after their baby is born. Additionally, thepoll found that 62% of Americans believe healthcare professionals with religious objections toabortions should not be legally required to perform them, while 82% of respondents believe thatlaws can protect both the mother and her unborn child.
“This year’s survey results show that Americans are once again firm in their belief that abortionshould be significantly limited yet laws should include exceptions for rape, incest, or to save thelife of the mother,” says Dr. Barbara L. Carvalho, Director of the Marist Poll. “This consistentyear over year trend found in the annual Knights of Columbus-Marist Poll has continued, nownearly three years after the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs decision.”
“The Knights of Columbus-Marist Poll once again shows that a majority of Americans supportlegal restrictions on abortion, and an overwhelming majority support pregnancy resource centers, which assist mothers and their children in greatest need,” said Knights of Columbus SupremeKnight Patrick Kelly.
Supreme Knight Kelly continued, “Being pro-life means being pro-woman and pro-child, andhelping vulnerable women and their babies is in the Knights’ DNA.”
Knights across the U.S. and Canada have raised nearly $14 million to support vital pregnancyresource centers through our ASAP, or Aid and Support After Pregnancy program. Knights havealso funded the purchase of over 1,900 ultrasound machines, which empower vulnerable mothersto see their unborn babies.
“The Knights of Columbus’ mission to support mothers in need and their children, both born andunborn, continues to guide our work today,” concluded Kelly.
Methodology
This survey of 1,387 adults was conducted January 7-9, 2025, by the Marist Poll in partnershipwith the Knights of Columbus. Survey questions were available in English or Spanish. Phoneand online samples were selected to ensure that each region was represented in proportion to itsadult population. The samples were then combined and balanced to reflect the 2022 AmericanCommunity Survey 5-year estimates for age, gender, income, race, and region. Results arestatistically significant within ±3.2 percentage points. There are 1,221 registered voters. Theresults for this subset are statistically significant within ±3.4 percentage points. Tables includeresults for subgroups to only display crosstabs with an acceptable sampling error. It should benoted that although you may not see results listed for a certain group, it does not mean interviewswere not completed with those individuals. It simply means the sample size is too small to report. The error margin was adjusted for sample weights and increases for cross-tabulations.
