Bishop Joseph G. Hanefeldt celebrated the 7 a.m. Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral in honor of the Feast Day of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast is a significant celebration in the Catholic Church, as it commemorates the birth of Mary, who is revered as the Mother of God and the purest dawn of the Redemption. Mary's birth is seen as a new dawn that proclaims joy to the whole world, for from her has been born the sun of justice, Christ our God. The celebration of Mary's birth is a prelude to the fore-ordained union of the Word with flesh, which is the mystery of the Incarnation and the deification of humanity that was assumed by Christ. Mary's birth is also a reminder of her role as the Mother of God, who is the universal King of the ages.
