With the support of their parishes, the Grand Island Diocesan Council of Catholic Women raised $20,000 for the Grand Island Diocesan Seminarian Fund. Bishop Emeritus William Dendinger accepted the check at the GIDCCW spring assembly in April. This fund was established in 2010 with the first gift of $10,000 presented at the spring meeting in 2011. Since that first check $138,256 has been donated. Other gifts announced at the Spring Assembly included $5,000 to the National Council of Catholic Women/Catholic Relief Services for Ukranian relief, 47,000 Best Choice Bar Codes were trimmed and counted for redemption (in bags of 1,000 for $30 each) to support Mission II Haiti to provide safe drinking water for people of Haiti (to date since 2007 $37,088 has been donated for clean safe drinking water), $500 divided between UNK and Chadron State Newman Centers, and four $200 scholarships awarded to a recipient in each of the four deaneries.
