St Mary’s Catholic Church Parish Council of Catholic Women in Mullen hosted the Fall North Platte Deanery meeting, which is comprised of 16 parishes, on September 28.
The day included a presentation by Marie Young from Mullen with pictures of Italy and video of the ceremony where her daughter Tricia took her first vows as a novice with the Consoling Sisters of the Sacred Heart at their convent in Narni, Italy. She received her habit and new name Sister Maria Pier Paola (Mary Peter Paul). Members that attend the National Convention in Oklahoma City shared their experience visiting the Shrine of Blessed Father Stanley Rother, who was murdered in the rectory at Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala in 1981. A video was shown of his life growing up in a small farm community from Okarche, OK and how he lived, worked, and ministered to this poor indigenous community and learned the Mayan language. He was declared a martyr by Pope Francis and beatified in Oklahoma City in 2017.
Mass was celebrated by Fr. Lou Nollette, Deanery Spiritual Advisor. After the luncheon and business meeting Fr. Nollette installed the 2024-2026 officers.
