Dominican Sister of Peace Collette Marie Bauer, OP (93), a native of Spalding, died Jan. 5, 2022, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Ky.
A Memorial Mass was Jan. 12 at Sansbury Care Center Chapel, St. Catharine, Ky. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery at a later date.
A Dominican for 69 years, Sr. Collette earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/Education from Siena College in Memphis, Tenn.; a Masters in Higher Education and a Masters in Art from Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. She was a teacher at St. Rose School at Springfield, Ky.; Blessed Sacrament in Grand Island; St. Patrick’s in McCook and St. Philip Neri in Omaha. She was also a librarian at Blessed Sacrament; St. Joseph Elementary in Omaha, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Louisville, Ky. She later taught art and religion at St. Catharine Academy/College at St. Catharine. She spent one year as secretary at Holy Ghost Parish in Omaha. In 1987, Sr. Collette provided office work as well as teacher/librarian for Catholic Charities for Refugees in Louisville and Jeffersonville, Ind. In 1991, she tutored at SS Simon and Jude in Louisville.
In 1998, Sr. Collette moved to Sansbury Care Center where she began a ministry of prayer and presence. She chosen to donate her body to science.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
