How Do I Know if I Have a Problem
    • How do I know if I have a problem?

If you ask this question, that might be the first indication that you need help.  However, it is confusing to determine the difference between a simple moral failing, an addiction, or a compulsive disorder.  Generally speaking, something needs to change if you cannot attain 90 days of freedom at a time.  Pornography use, coupled with masturbation, changes the chemical makeup of the brain, and it can take up to 100 days for the brain to heal from the changes that have taken place. There is a video of Gary Wilson speaks about the addictiveness of internet pornography at the bottom of the page for you to watch.

      On-line Assessment Tool

If you are wondering if you really need help, you can take this easy online assessment.  The assessment is based on 7 different levels which range from someone who might look at rated R movies once in a while, to someone who is compulsively acting out in dangerous  ways.  For an explanation of  the seven levels watch the video in the bottom left corner of the website.  When you  take the assessment you can invite a sponsor to receive your results.  If you are working with a counselor or spiritual director, enter that persons email to share your results.

    Pornography Filters
    • One of the most efficient ways to prevent pornographic material from entering your home is to install a filter on all computers and devices.

      Computer Filters

Many filter systems are available that block offensive and pornographic content. These password-protected filters (be sure to have someone outside the home set them up and keep the password!) You can also send accountability reports, restrict search terms, and put time limits on internet usage.

There is no reason to allow objectionable content into your home. Consider using the following software:

      • Covenant Eyes

      Filters for Other Devices

Filters are important for phones and other systems that access the web. These mobile devices can provide additional temptation to those who struggle with pornography. When considering which phone/device to purchase, check to see whether they are compatible with filters. A few of the filters available are:

      • iPhone, iPad, iPod: Covenant Eyes
      • Droid: Safe Eyes
      • Android: Net Nanny

    • In the following video Gary Wilson speaks about the addictiveness of internet pornography.  You can find more of his videos at www.yourbrainonporn.com.
